Well yeah its not ideal but it’s the groomers preference. I would ask them if they might have any slower days during the week that they could try and get your dog in so there won’t be a problem with you coming into cutting room to help hold your dog and you not being in the way of other groomers trying to do their jobs. High velocity dryers going, kennel dryers going, clippers, and dogs barking non stop. And once they even attempt to show teeth or growl they are supposed to be referred out to a place that will muzzle but I have kept a lot of my clients just by getting the parent to come in and holding their dog while I do their nails (that’s usually the part that gets them growling)Īlso busy days at the salon can create a huge stress on dogs because it is already a stressful environment. That can lead to the dog hurting themselves on the table or hurting the groomer all because they are scared and nervous. Some groomers don’t have the patience to deal with that type of situation, and some dogs don’t either. With a whole different personality and different techniques. That’s not just a new groomer my dude, that’s a whole other person who is a complete stranger. Then you send them to a different groomer. your dog has to put a shitton of trust in the one person touching them all over the place and shaving very sensitive parts. Your primary groomer has probably taken the time to get to know your dogs likes and dislikes and works around them to make him comfortable. The VIP treatment while booking would be a good idea, but switching groomers a lot is kinda like switching doctors or hairdressers. If there is anyone else in the grooming salon, I would ask them if there is anyway anyone else could try and groom your dog.Īsk them if there is anything specific he just doesn’t like and offer to help hold him while they do whatever is giving your groomer the problem of never wanting to do him again, nails, face, feet etc. I hope you and your fur baby find a better fit <3 & I hope some of my thoughts prove helpful!ĪBSOLUTELY DO NOT MAKE ANOTHER ACCOUNT. I’m sorry you had such a poor experience- communication is a two way street and you 100% deserved a conversation re: concerns with grooming your pet. 2-3 hrs) and/ or picking up within 15 mins of completion to help ease some anxiety. You can try booking your pet as a VIP/express (your pet has minimal kennel time and is done in approx. Give them an opportunity to create a good plan for both your dog and themselves as to the best approach ( a stress-reduced grooming experience requires a good plan). If you’re able to lock down an appt at another salon, be sure to communicate openly both your apprehensions and those of the previous groomer. Online booking may still be toggled off, but you should be able to call and make an appt at another salon (granted the notes don’t go into detail providing policy-wide valid reasons for your referral out). I have also made long-time clients out of those that were referred out of other Petcos (sometimes a groomer and/or location just aren’t a great fit). Also, I’ve banned dogs from my salon and they’ve been able to book at another Petco location (usually due to: blatant disrespect/ abusive language towards groomers, health concerns (heart murmurs, incontinence, severe arthritis, seizures, etc.), old age and health concerns (because age is often just a number), aggression/reactive behavior, or anxiety to the point of potentially injuring themselves).
